Dead Elm Trees

Death of a Forest.

In case you hadn’t noticed the forest pictured above is not healthy. On my last visit to my old home in Livonia I was surprised to discover the amount of damaged caused by elm disease. In one local nature reserve the devastation was incredible. I was shocked by what was left of the once vibrant forest. The elms, which made up most of it, were all dead. It’s incredible that thousands of trees could die off in so short a time. For me it seemed to happened overnight as I had been gone for several years and had left before the damage begun. Just 5 years later miles of trees were wiped out. No one there really seemed to notice. Maybe living with the gradual transformation, if you could call it that, made it hard noticed the change in the environment. Even on such a large scale.
